Down in the valley, Lauterbrunnen has its own lore as the “Valley of 72 Waterfalls”, with Staubbach Falls dropping almost 300 metres over a cliff edge in a cascade that inspired Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s poem “Gesang der Geister über den Wassern” (“Song of the Spirits over the Waters”).
